Villa Sobrante is a natural remodel of a small urban lot in El Sobrante, CA. The project explores how to integrate cutting-edge natural building methods and living systems into an existing piece of the urban fabric. This project set a permit precedent for the use of straw-clay as a remodel material in Contra Costa county, and as a result won the Sustainable Contra Costa green remodel award in 2013. Techniques used: light straw-clay, clay and lime plasters, earthen floors.
